GRNT101: Grant Writer

Join JerseySTEM as a Grant Writer (GRNT101) and contribute your professional expertise to a mission-driven organization working to expand STEM education access for underrepresented middle school girls across New Jersey. This is a pro-bono position based in the United States.

About This Position

JerseySTEM is a professional network of volunteers dedicated to closing equity gaps in STEM education and career readiness for young women in New Jersey. We are seeking an experienced grant writer to become a core member of our fundraising team. This pro-bono role requires a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week. A $100 refundable deposit is requested (returned after six months of active participation), though this requirement is waived for K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and identify grant funding opportunities aligned with JerseySTEM's mission and programming
• Write compelling and strategically focused grant proposals that articulate the organization's vision, goals, and impact strategies
• Partner with the Grant Writing Team Lead to refine proposal concepts, validate funding targets, and address funder priorities
• Coordinate with program staff to collect program data, outcomes, and qualitative evidence required for applications
• Track, document, and submit proposals to funders according to their timelines and guidelines
• Maintain detailed records of all grant submissions, responses, and results
• Monitor the grant landscape for emerging funding mechanisms and regulatory changes
• Participate in weekly team meetings (Thursdays, 9:15am–9:45am EST)

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in communications, business, nonprofit management, education, or a related field
• Minimum three years of grant writing experience, preferably within the nonprofit or educational sectors
• Demonstrated ability to research grantmakers and translate organizational needs into compelling funding narratives
• Strong command of grant application requirements, submission procedures, and compliance standards
• Proven capacity to manage concurrent deadlines and maintain accuracy across complex documents
• Self-directed work style with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to rapidly learn program structures and funding landscapes specific to STEM education equity
