Freight Agent (Independent Contractor)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential logistics organization operating multiple divisions across the United States. We are seeking experienced Freight Agents to join their network as independent contractors under a 1099 arrangement.

This is a commission-only opportunity with no base salary. We want to be upfront: this structure is designed for professionals who already have freight industry experience and either maintain an existing book of business or can demonstrate the ability to build one quickly.

Responsibilities

• Prospect and develop relationships with shipping customers to expand your client portfolio
• Quote freight rates, book shipments, and manage loads from pickup through final delivery
• Negotiate competitive rates with both carriers and customers
• Monitor shipments in transit and maintain proactive communication with all parties
• Handle shipment documentation and resolve any issues that arise during transport
• Build and maintain your book of business through relationship management and service excellence

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation (required)
• An existing or transferable book of business, or proven track record of building client relationships from scratch
• Working knowledge of freight brokerage operations, carrier negotiations, and logistics workflows
• Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders
• Problem-solving abilities and customer service orientation
• Account management experience in a B2B environment

What the client provides: The organization supplies comprehensive back-office support including cargo and liability insurance, load board access, transportation management system (TMS), access to an extensive vetted carrier network, customer invoicing and collections, EDI capabilities, orientation and training, and ongoing operational support. There are no startup fees or costs to you.

Compensation Structure

This position operates on a revenue share model where you earn a percentage of the gross margin on every delivered load. Compensation is 100% commission-based with no base salary. The client's share covers the comprehensive suite of services provided to support your business, including insurance, technology platforms, carrier vetting, invoicing, collections, and back-office operations.
