Financial Operations Lead

About This Role

We are representing a confidential AI technology company experiencing exceptional growth. They are seeking their first dedicated Financial Operations Lead to be based in London and work directly with the founding team.

This is a rare opportunity to build a finance function from the ground up at a venture-backed organization scaling rapidly across multiple countries. You'll own finance end-to-end: establishing foundational processes, implementing scalable systems, and evolving into a strategic business partner as the company grows from dozens to hundreds of employees.

This isn't a CFO strategy role, nor is it bookkeeping. It's a hands-on generalist position for someone who understands accounting deeply, executes relentlessly, and can move seamlessly from processing invoices in the morning to building company budgets in the afternoon and modeling financials in the evening.

Responsibilities

• Own accounts payable end-to-end: approval workflows, timely supplier payments, preventing duplicates and errors, and leading vendor negotiations across software, office space, and other contracts
• Manage billing and collections across a large client base, partnering with revenue operations to maintain healthy cash flow and resolve outstanding invoices
• Run monthly financial close processes with external accountants, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Define and report on key financial metrics, establishing the single source of truth and communicating results to leadership and investors
• Design and implement the finance technology stack from scratch, including approvals, procurement, spend management, and billing systems with aggressive automation
• Develop the company's first comprehensive budgeting and approval processes across hiring, marketing, conferences, facilities, and other areas
• Build financial models to support major decisions including office leases, hiring plans, marketing investments, and potential acquisitions
• Manage multi-country operations including new office setup, transfer pricing, and international tax coordination with external advisors
• Steward treasury management and ensure payroll and vendor payments are always met
• Partner closely with sales, marketing, and other teams as a business enabler rather than a back-office function

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years in finance or finance-heavy operations at high-growth technology companies (FP&A lead, finance operations, or generalist operator with strong finance expertise)
• Deep fluency in accounting principles and ability to manage external accountants through monthly close processes
• Proven track record implementing finance processes, tooling, and automation that scale with rapid company growth
• Strong financial modeling skills across budgets, forecasts, P&L, and cash management
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
• High agency and ability to tackle ambiguous problems independently
• Detail-oriented mindset with nothing slipping through the cracks
• Business partner mentality focused on accelerating growth rather than pure control

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience as first or early finance hire building a function from scratch
• Background negotiating vendor contracts and pricing
• Treasury experience managing significant cash positions
• Multi-entity experience including consolidation, transfer pricing, or international tax
• Accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or fundamentals from banking, consulting, or venture capital
• STEM background with quantitative degree; coding ability a bonus
• Experience with modern finance technology stacks and leveraging AI tools
