Forward Deployed Data Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential data infrastructure client seeking a Forward Deployed Data Scientist to work at the intersection of machine learning, marketing analytics, and customer success. This is a unique cross-functional role where you'll partner with enterprise customers and internal engineering teams to ensure AI-driven marketing systems deliver measurable, sustained performance improvements.

Our client serves leading brands across retail, streaming, e-commerce, and financial services. You'll spend roughly 30% of your time working directly with customers and 70% conducting deep analytical and modeling work. This role is remote and open to candidates in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Responsibilities

• Own diagnostics, insights, and performance tuning for AI-powered marketing campaigns
• Explain campaign lift using counterfactuals, incrementality analysis, and cohort breakdowns
• Debug model performance issues, iterate on reward functions, and align agent recommendations with customer goals
• Conduct exploratory data analysis using Python (Polars/Pandas) in Jupyter notebooks
• Perform warehouse-level SQL analyses to surface insights not available in standard reporting
• Modify and enhance customer feature matrices to unlock deeper personalization
• Build templates, scripts, and repeatable workflows that enable scalable performance analysis
• Present model insights and technical recommendations to marketers, analysts, and executives
• Explain ML concepts—cold start handling, transfer learning, exploration vs. exploitation—to non-technical stakeholders
• Collaborate with Solutions Consultants to identify new opportunities for uplift

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Strong ability to perform deep exploratory data analysis in Python (Polars/Pandas, Jupyter)
• Solid SQL skills for warehouse-based customer data analysis
• High-level understanding of ML modeling concepts: features, hyperparameters, reward functions, training windows
• Excellent communication skills; able to explain technical reasoning clearly to marketers and business leaders
• Customer-first mindset with high ownership and urgency when resolving issues

Bonus:

• Experience setting up and analyzing marketing experiments (A/B tests, multivariate tests)
• Prior experience in applied ML, data science, analytics engineering, or forward-deployed roles
• Experience building lightweight internal tools or scripting solutions

Pay

The client has indicated a salary range of $140,000–$220,000 USD per year for this position, which is location-independent. Exact compensation depends on experience and qualifications.
