Senior News Editor – German Speaker

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential e-commerce client seeking a Senior News Editor fluent in German. Our talent team is looking for an experienced editorial professional to lead content strategy and production for a consumer-focused digital publication serving millions of readers across Germany.

This is a hybrid role based in Berlin, offering the opportunity to shape editorial direction, manage a team of contributors, and drive meaningful engagement through compelling money-saving journalism.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own the weekly editorial plan for the German edition, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content
• Write strong, engaging headlines and copy that resonate with readers seeking value and savings
• Plan and execute end-to-end coverage for recurring shopping events, including hub pages and live updates
• Brief, review, and provide written feedback to staff editors and freelance contributors
• Conduct keyword research and optimize content structure for search engines and digital platforms
• Edit articles for grammatical accuracy, factual consistency, and adherence to style guidelines
• Track and analyze performance metrics including conversion rates, organic traffic, and click-through rates
• Translate performance data into actionable editorial decisions on content strategy
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including platform editorial, PR, commercial, and social departments
• Maintain industry knowledge and build relationships with manufacturers, testers, and community members
• Integrate AI tools into editorial workflows within established guidelines
• Ensure all content complies with legal requirements and journalistic standards

What We're Looking For

• At least 3 years of editorial experience in an online newsroom with a published portfolio
• Fluent German and English language skills (required)
• Proven ability to identify story angles and handle data, numbers, and sources with accuracy
• Hands-on experience with WordPress CMS (ideally with Gutenberg editor)
• Working knowledge of Google Search Console and SEO tools (Ahrefs or Semrush)
• Familiarity with price-tracking tools (Idealo, Keepa, CamelCamelCamel)
• Experience using AI tools in production workflows
• Strong editorial judgment under deadline pressure
• Excellent communication skills and ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
• Self-directed ownership approach with cross-departmental collaboration skills
