Engineering Manager – Java

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in Paris seeking an experienced Engineering Manager - Java to lead a distributed development team. This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on technical leadership with people management in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Our client is building cutting-edge solutions that leverage AI and modern microservices architecture. You'll manage a team of 4-5 developers while remaining actively involved in technical delivery, making key architectural decisions, and driving engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 4-5 Java developers across distributed locations, conducting one-on-ones, performance reviews, and fostering team cohesion
• Take ownership of user stories, conduct code reviews, and actively contribute to design, development, testing, and production deployments
• Develop technical roadmaps and align priorities with cross-functional stakeholders including product and design teams
• Remove technical blockers, make arbitration decisions, and ensure the team delivers on commitments with high velocity and quality
• Establish and enforce best practices in clean code, testing methodologies, and pair programming
• Ensure successful onboarding of new team members and contribute to recruitment efforts
• Identify and nurture team talent, supporting career development and continuous learning
• Participate in the adoption of AI within products and internal engineering practices

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of Java development experience with recent versions of the language
• At least 2 years in a team lead or engineering management role, with proven experience mentoring developers
• Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with people management responsibilities
• Track record of delivering complex projects in a microservices architecture environment
• Professional proficiency in English

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in Java (recent versions)
• Experience with Spring Framework
• SQL database knowledge
• Cloud platforms experience
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture patterns
• Commitment to clean code principles and engineering best practices

Location: Paris office-based with one day remote work per week
