Engineering Manager- Ceph & Distributed Storage

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking an Engineering Manager for Ceph & Distributed Storage. Our client is a global leader in enterprise software solutions, operating with fully distributed teams across 75+ countries.

This is a remote position open to candidates in EMEA, LATAM, Canada, and the USA. The role involves managing a distributed team building scale-out storage solutions, with travel up to 20% for team alignment and industry events.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a globally distributed engineering team focused on software-defined storage solutions using Ceph
• Build and scale a high-performing team through coaching, mentoring, and continuous feedback
• Contribute directly to technical goals while demonstrating sound engineering principles
• Set realistic project schedules based on thorough estimates and implement feedback loops for continuous improvement
• Manage expectations and collaborate with other engineering teams and external stakeholders
• Champion modern, agile software development practices across your team
• Maintain and foster a culture of quality, engineering excellence, and collaboration aligned with organizational values
• Participate actively in the leadership team and work cross-functionally with other organizational leaders
• Ensure best practices in software architecture, quality assurance, testing, and documentation

What We're Looking For

• Strong software engineering background, preferably with Python and C++ experience
• Proven experience operating scale-out storage clusters on Linux in production environments; Ceph experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated track record of developing and growing engineering talent
• Passion for building products that improve infrastructure operations and software management
• Deep knowledge and enthusiasm for software development principles and practices
• Solid experience leading, managing, and mentoring software developers to deliver high-quality software on schedule
• Strong background working in agile development environments
• Enthusiasm for embracing new technologies and pushing technical boundaries
• Excellent communication skills for managing a globally distributed team
