Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential defense-technology organization in Munich seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join their firmware team. In this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain firmware for microcontroller-based subsystem boards, including peripheral drivers, bootloaders, and bus protocols for sensor, interface, power, and actuation electronics
- Extend and tune flight-controller configurations, including device drivers, parameters, vehicle setup, and integration of new sensors and payloads
- Integrate sensors and peripherals across aerial platforms using CAN-based avionics devices and SPI/I2C/UART sensors with telemetry plumbing
- Contribute to next-generation mission computer development across real-time operating system (RTOS) and Linux domains
- Build and maintain continuous integration pipelines, hardware-in-the-loop test setups, automated on-target testing, and flight-log analysis tools
- Support board bring-up and debugging in collaboration with the hardware engineering team, and participate in integration and flight-test campaigns
- Document firmware systems and create test protocols to ensure maintainability as the platform evolves
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable qualification
- 1–3 years of professional experience in embedded C/C++ for microcontrollers (strong recent graduates with relevant project work are welcome)
- Working knowledge of an RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, NuttX) or bare-metal firmware; embedded Linux exposure and motivation to work across both domains
- Familiarity with embedded communication buses (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN) and debugging tools (JTAG/SWD, logic analyzer, oscilloscope)
- Hands-on experience with PX4 or ArduPilot (drivers, parameters, vehicle bring-up) is a strong plus
- Background with drones, RC aircraft, or robotics through student teams, competitions, or personal projects is highly valued
- Solid Git workflow; experience with CI systems and Python-based tooling is beneficial
- Hands-on approach, fast learner, and team player comfortable with early ownership of critical systems
- Fluent English required; German is beneficial
- Must possess a valid work permit for Germany; visa sponsorship is not available
