Software Engineering – Senior Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential analytics software client in their search for a Senior Software Engineer. This role sits within a consumer-facing web applications team that builds scalable platforms on AWS. The engineering organization is rapidly integrating AI and machine learning into both their products and development workflows, creating an environment where engineers can ship faster while maintaining rigorous quality standards.

We're looking for a senior engineer who can design and operate production Java microservices, ship LLM-powered features with the same discipline as any critical system, and use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while exercising sound engineering judgment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate secure, scalable Java microservices from concept through production deployment
• Ship LLM-powered features including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and tool-use patterns with full observability, evaluations, and guardrails
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while reviewing, refactoring, and validating generated code
• Drive design discussions and code reviews to raise standards for code quality, test coverage, and architectural clarity
• Collaborate with product management, security, and platform teams to deliver compliant technical solutions
• Identify and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks through profiling, refactoring, and architectural improvements

What We're Looking For

• Extensive hands-on experience with core Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture
• Deep proficiency deploying and operating services on AWS with Docker and Kubernetes
• Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, Bedrock, OpenAI) into production Java services
• Working knowledge of both SQL (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra) databases
• Strong foundation in application security: encryption, authentication, authorization, and secure API design
• Proven experience tuning high-throughput, low-latency systems for performance and reliability
• Fluency with event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging patterns (Kafka, SQS, EventBridge, or similar)
• Experience with modern engineering practices: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing at multiple levels
• Proven experience with high-traffic consumer-facing platforms and rigorous coding standards
• Exceptional communication skills with ability to articulate design tradeoffs across technical and product partners
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent work experience); AWS certifications a plus
