About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential Australian government client seeking an experienced Lead Data Scientist to drive AI and machine learning innovation. This is a strategic role requiring baseline security clearance and Australian citizenship.

Location: Australia (candidates must specify their location when applying)
Citizenship: Australian Citizens residing in Australia only
Security Clearance: Baseline clearance required

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML solutions using machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and large language models
• Deliver the full lifecycle of AI solutions from planning and design through testing, deployment, and evaluation
• Create prototypes aligned with business goals that deliver measurable value
• Drive innovation by providing strategic advice on AI initiatives and researching the latest trends in the field
• Contribute to the development of AI technical standards, including guardrail designs and control practices for ethical AI development
• Implement AI solutions consistent with governance frameworks, ensuring adherence to enterprise policies, standards, ethics, and relevant legislation
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for senior executives and non-technical stakeholders
• Work closely with stakeholders to determine appropriate AI solutions for deployment and integration

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Proficiency in programming languages including Python, R, and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Familiarity with application development frameworks such as React, Flask, or R Shiny
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing principles and best practices, particularly with Microsoft Azure
• Experience with cloud-based data storage, processing, and analytics solutions
• Expertise in AI governance frameworks and best practices, including guardrail designs and control practices
• Ability to work independently with limited guidance in uncertain and rapidly changing environments
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work openly in multi-disciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills to foster support for AI initiatives across diverse audiences
• Focus on people and business outcomes over formal methodologies
• Creativity and resilience in problem-solving
