EL1 Lead data Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential government organization in Australia seeking an experienced Lead Data Scientist to drive AI and machine learning innovation. This is a high-impact role requiring baseline security clearance and Australian citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end AI/ML solutions using machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and large language models
• Deliver the complete lifecycle of AI solutions from planning and design through testing, deployment, and evaluation
• Create prototypes aligned with business objectives that deliver measurable value
• Contribute to development of AI technical standards, including guardrail designs and control practices for ethical AI development
• Drive innovation by providing strategic advice on AI initiatives and researching latest trends in the field
• Implement AI solutions consistent with governance frameworks, ensuring adherence to enterprise policies, standards, ethics, and legislation
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for senior executives and non-technical stakeholders
• Work closely with stakeholders to determine appropriate AI solutions for deployment and integration

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Proficiency in programming languages including Python, R, and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience with application development frameworks (React, Flask, R Shiny)
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing principles and best practices, particularly Microsoft Azure
• Familiarity with cloud-based data storage, processing, and analytics solutions
• Expertise in AI governance frameworks and best practices, including guardrail designs and control practices
• Ability to work independently with limited guidance in uncertain and rapidly changing environments
• Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong focus on people and business outcomes
• Proven ability to foster support for AI initiatives across diverse audiences

Desirable:

• Current baseline security clearance
• Demonstrated experience in government or highly regulated environments
