DevOps & Security Engineer – AI-Native Healthcare SaaS

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization that is building AI-driven mental wellness platforms. They need a security-first DevOps engineer who will own infrastructure, compliance, and cybersecurity across their HIPAA-regulated environment.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the world, with evening IST hours requiring 4–8 hours of daily overlap with US Pacific time (9am–5pm PT).

Responsibilities

You will be the organization's primary owner of infrastructure security and compliance engineering, building systems from the ground up:

• Cybersecurity & Threat Defense: Manage threat modeling, reduce attack surfaces, oversee intrusion detection, handle vulnerability management, and plan incident responses. You have authority to halt releases that don't meet security standards.
• CI/CD and Deployment Automation: Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for all products, establishing deployment automation, managing environments, and setting quality thresholds with security gates.
• HIPAA Compliance: Develop and maintain a HIPAA-compliant security posture including access controls, secrets management, audit logs, and encryption standards.
• Monitoring & Incident Response: Create monitoring and alerting to proactively identify issues, establish incident response protocols, define SLOs, and lead on-call rotations.
• AI Infrastructure Support: Build infrastructure for production AI including model serving, GPU provisioning if needed, and autoscaling for AI workloads.
• Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure) with focus on cost optimization, reliability, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
• SOC 2 Readiness: Lead SOC 2 Type II preparation, implementing controls, organizing evidence collection, and liaising with auditors.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5-10 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering with large-scale production infrastructure
• Strong security mindset — naturally cautious, detail-focused, comfortable saying "no" when risks are unacceptable
• Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or healthcare compliance frameworks including BAAs, audit trails, and regulatory obligations
• Proficiency in AWS or Azure with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation)
• CI/CD pipeline design and implementation (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins, or similar)
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, or equivalent)
• Cybersecurity skills including threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, intrusion detection, and incident response
• Strong English communication skills for asynchronous work, documentation, and incident reports
• Startup or high-growth environment experience with uncertainty and pressing deadlines

Strongly preferred:

• Experience supporting ML/AI infrastructure (model serving, GPU clusters)
• Security expertise in healthcare SaaS (handling PHI, encryption, access auditing)
• Background in penetration testing or security audits
• Prior SOC 2 or HITRUST certification experience
• Knowledge of observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)

Nice to have:

• Understanding of FHIR/HL7 healthcare data standards
• Production Kubernetes experience
• Multi-tenant SaaS security strategies
• Security certifications (CISSP, CEH, or equivalent)
