About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential social services technology organization seeking a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to lead complex development efforts on web-based applications that support data-driven decision making in the social services sector.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States. You'll work with Ruby on Rails to design and improve software systems that help professionals access meaningful and reliable data for program reporting and analysis.

In this role, you will influence technical architecture, mentor engineering team members, and ensure systems are scalable, secure, and high performing. You'll collaborate across teams and contribute to tools that directly impact outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, high-performance software systems using Ruby on Rails
  • Lead design discussions and provide architectural guidance for complex application development efforts
  • Conduct and lead code reviews, offering constructive feedback and enforcing coding standards
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting their skill development and technical growth
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, libraries, and frameworks to improve development efficiency
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis to ensure system reliability
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering organization

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 5–8 years of experience in full-stack software engineering
  • Proven experience developing full-stack web applications using Ruby on Rails
  • Familiarity with Hotwire (Turbo + Stimulus), Tailwind CSS, and PostgreSQL
  • Experience with RSpec and FactoryBot for testing
  • Advanced experience with Git, including code review workflows and CI/CD integration
  • Advanced SQL optimization and data modeling skills
  • Experience designing and building APIs and scalable systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor other engineers
  • Experience working in Agile development environments

Additional assets:

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages or frameworks
  • Experience with performance tuning and system optimization
  • Strong system design skills and familiarity with modern architectural patterns
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional and non-technical stakeholders

Pay

Our client offers competitive compensation with a national average salary range between $108,500 and $115,000 per year, dependent on experience and location. The role includes a monthly remote work stipend, comprehensive benefits with no-premium employee-only medical coverage, generous vacation and paid holidays, flexible work scheduling, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement plan, and paid sick leave.
