About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded energy technology company based in München that is building critical infrastructure for European industrial operations. Our client processes meter readings and operational data from industrial sites across the continent, transforming raw telemetry into actionable insights that drive efficiency and cost savings.

As a Data Engineer, you will own the data backbone that powers the entire product. You'll integrate diverse industrial hardware and utility data streams, build pipelines that handle high-volume time-series data, and apply data science techniques to surface anomalies and insights that customers can act on immediately.

This is a small, high-ownership engineering team of 12 where your work reaches production in weeks, not quarters.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain meter data integration pipelines connecting industrial hardware and utility APIs to real-time dashboards
  • Normalize diverse data sources into consistent structures that support reliable dashboards, insights, and forecasting
  • Build and deploy data science models to detect anomalies—meters drifting, unexpected consumption patterns, equipment running outside normal hours
  • Ensure data quality across high-volume time-series ingestion: handle late arrivals, missing readings, duplicates, and backfills
  • Support scalable data infrastructure growth as the platform expands across European markets
  • Own what you build: monitoring, alerting, and production support for your pipelines

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3–5 years in data engineering building production pipelines that others depend on
  • Hands-on data science experience: you've built and evaluated models, distinguished signal from noise, and understood what production pipelines owe to models in production
  • Strong Python and SQL skills with proven cloud data infrastructure experience
  • Deep familiarity with high-volume time-series data: ingestion, quality checks, backfills, and handling real-world data issues
  • End-to-end thinking—your first instinct is to simplify the problem before building complex solutions
  • Clear written and spoken English

Preferred:

  • Background in energy, industrial IoT, or other domains involving hardware-generated data
  • Experience with metering protocols, device telemetry, or streaming pipelines
  • Knowledge of TypeScript, Kotlin, or another programming language beyond Python
  • German language skills
  • Experience running production systems: monitoring, alerting, and debugging under pressure
