About the Role

As a Crime Scene Technician with the City of Charlotte, you'll be a critical part of our police department's investigative operations. You'll work at active crime scenes to document, collect, and preserve physical evidence with precision and integrity. Your work directly supports criminal investigations and helps ensure that cases move forward with the strongest possible evidence foundation.

What You'll Do

  • Respond to crime scenes and process them according to department procedures and forensic best practices
  • Photograph, measure, and document the scene layout, evidence location, and relevant details
  • Collect, package, and label evidence while maintaining strict chain of custody protocols
  • Prepare detailed written reports documenting your findings and evidence collection procedures
  • Coordinate with police detectives, investigators, and other law enforcement personnel
  • Transport evidence to laboratory facilities and maintain accurate records
  • Testify in court regarding your findings and forensic procedures when required
  • Stay current with evolving forensic techniques and department policy updates

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or certification in forensic science preferred
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Physical fitness and capability to work at various crime scenes and outdoor locations
  • Attention to detail and strong documentation skills
  • Ability to remain composed and professional in high-stress, sensitive situations
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
  • Passing background investigation, drug screening, and medical examination
