Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Western is hiring an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach to join its athletic program in Gunnison, Colorado. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to develop student-athletes and contribute to a competitive basketball program.

What This Role Involves

As an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Western, you'll partner with the head coach to guide, train, and mentor student-athletes within the men's basketball program. You'll be directly involved in on-court instruction, player development, game preparation, and recruitment. This role demands your presence in Gunnison, CO, where you'll help shape the program's competitive culture and support student success both athletically and academically.

Responsibilities

• Coach players during practices, games, and training sessions focused on skill development and game strategy
• Collaborate on practice planning and the development of game-day strategies
• Provide individual instruction and personalized coaching to improve player performance
• Participate actively in recruiting efforts to identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes
• Study and analyze game film to prepare scouting reports and adjust tactics
• Travel with the team to away games and tournaments throughout the season
• Mentor players on basketball fundamentals, leadership, and team dynamics
• Maintain awareness of and support compliance with NCAA regulations and Western policies
• Foster a positive, inclusive team environment aligned with program goals

Requirements

• Proven experience coaching basketball at the college or high school level, or equivalent professional background
• Strong understanding of basketball coaching methodology and player development techniques
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to work collaboratively with head coaching staff and athletic department personnel
• Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Availability and willingness to travel with the team
• Genuine commitment to student-athlete success and well-being
