About the Role
The Fleet Maintenance Division of the Town of Garner is seeking a dependable, hands-on Fleet Mechanic to keep our public works vehicles in reliable working condition. You'll diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and conduct preventive maintenance on the equipment that serves Garner's residents every day. This is a full-time position where your technical expertise directly contributes to the town's operational success.
What You'll Do
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on public works vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic equipment and systematic troubleshooting
- Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, and other critical components
- Inspect vehicles for safety compliance and address wear or damage before failures occur
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all maintenance and repair work
- Coordinate with supervisors and vehicle operators regarding repair status and vehicle readiness
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience as a fleet mechanic, automotive technician, or equivalent hands-on repair background
- Solid understanding of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair methodologies
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance priorities effectively
- Strong commitment to safety standards and best practices
- Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record
- Physical capability to perform demanding mechanical work in varied conditions
