About the Role
The State of Nebraska is looking for a dedicated horticulturist to support the Game & Parks Commission's mission of maintaining and enhancing the state's natural beauty. Working in Lincoln, Lancaster County, you will be central to the daily operations that keep Nebraska's public gardens, nurseries, and grounds thriving year-round. This is a full-time role ideal for someone with practical experience in plant cultivation and outdoor landscaping.
What You'll Do
- Propagate, cultivate, and maintain a diverse range of plants in nursery and garden settings
- Prepare and care for seedlings, transplants, and seasonal plantings
- Perform landscape maintenance and grounds beautification work across state properties
- Identify plant species and assess their health and care requirements
- Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tools
- Assist with soil preparation, irrigation, and pest management
- Support seasonal projects and special landscaping initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Practical experience in horticulture, nursery operations, or landscape maintenance
- Strong knowledge of plant species, growing techniques, and soil management
- Physical ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Familiarity with gardening equipment, tools, and safety practices
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality landscape work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
