About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an Anti-Financial Crime Intern or Working Student to strengthen operational processes within their Berlin-based team. This is a high-impact role where you will take ownership of critical workflows, coordinate across multiple departments, and help build sustainable systems for handling sensitive banking and legal correspondence.

You will join a Central Europe AFC team and tackle a concrete challenge from day one: ensuring that physical correspondence—including court documents, legal notices, seizures, and law-enforcement requests—is received, routed, tracked, and handled on time. As you demonstrate capability, your scope will expand to include cross-functional coordination projects between AFC, Product, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Map and improve the physical-mail workflow for sensitive banking and legal documents, identifying bottlenecks, unclear ownership, and missed handoffs
• Design and maintain clear routing rules, trackers, ownership models, escalation paths, and follow-up routines to ensure timely handling of critical requests
• Coordinate across AFC, AML, Fraud, Banking Operations, Legal, and other teams to clarify responsibilities and maintain visibility on open actions
• Support AFC and Product projects, including organizing the feature-approval process and coordinating input from multiple compliance officers across Europe
• Experiment with AI tools to structure information, document workflows, and reduce repetitive coordination work while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
• Turn loosely defined problems into concrete, sustainable processes with visible impact on operational risk management

What We're Looking For

• Enrollment status: You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program (Law, Economics, Marketing, or another relevant field)
• Autonomy and accountability: You can take an open-ended problem, ask the right questions, structure your approach, and make progress without step-by-step instructions
• Organization and rigor: You can track multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and dependencies while understanding why small gaps matter in legal or regulatory contexts
• Fast learner: Prior AFC or banking experience is not required, but you are curious about financial crime, banking operations, legal processes, and fintech workflows
• Digital proficiency: Confident with Google Workspace; familiarity with Notion is a strong plus
• Language: Professional English is required (team working language); German is a plus; Dutch is an additional bonus
• AI curiosity: Willingness to experiment with AI to organize information and improve processes while maintaining judgment and confidentiality

Work arrangement: Hybrid in Berlin, approximately 3 days per week in the office to support learning and collaboration. This is project-based work with progressive scope, not repetitive daily tasks.

Your manager, Stefano, is the Anti-Financial Crime Director for Central Europe with nearly a decade of AML and compliance experience across banking and crypto, including senior roles at PwC, Coinbase Germany, Upvest, Intesa Sanpaolo, and Deutsche Bank. He provides context and support while trusting you to investigate problems, propose solutions, and take ownership independently.

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive for the Berlin market for internship and working student roles.
