Analytics Engineering Lead

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Analytics Engineering Lead to architect their data infrastructure and lead a high-performing team. This is a hybrid role based in Spain that combines technical mastery with strategic leadership, requiring someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys solving complex problems.

As the primary architect of the company's data "source of truth," you'll bridge the gap between Data Engineering and business stakeholders across Corporate, Marketing, Customer Success, Sales, and GTM Operations teams. Your mission is to eliminate manual processes and empower the organization with true self-service analytics capabilities through a sophisticated semantic layer.

Responsibilities

• People Leadership: Mentor and coach the Analytics Engineering team, drive high-performance culture, manage capacity and sprint priorities, conduct regular 1-on-1s and performance reviews, support recruitment and onboarding
• Semantic Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain centralized Looker semantic models (LookML), enforce coding standards and performance optimization, act as gatekeeper for all Looker implementations
• CI/CD Management: Establish and manage robust version control and deployment pipelines in GitLab for the semantic layer
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Data Engineering to optimize table structures and schemas, translate business analyst needs into scalable data models
• Automation: Identify and automate manual workflows using Python scripts, API integrations (Looker API), or Agentic AI to scale team capabilities
• Operational Excellence: Modernize team workflows by creating and enforcing disciplined Jira ticketing structures for transparency and velocity

What We're Looking For

Technical Skills:

• Expert-level knowledge of Looker Semantic Layer, LookML, Liquid, and Looker administration; experience with Looker API strongly preferred
• Prior experience migrating from another tool to Looker highly advantageous
• Advanced SQL proficiency including window functions and query optimization
• Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery) and at least intermediate knowledge of dbt
• Strong understanding of Git workflows, CI/CD principles, and data modeling methodologies (Kimball, Data Vault)
• Python scripting ability for workflow automation and API interactions
• Prior experience with AI Agents in conversational analytics highly desirable

Leadership & Soft Skills:

• Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams in agile environments
• Ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
• Passion for documentation, process hygiene, and building repeatable workflows
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to create clarity in rapidly changing environments
