Responsibilities

  • Investigate potential claims by collecting and reviewing clinical notes, hospital records and other evidence to evaluate liability and damages.
  • Commission reports from independent medical experts and integrate their findings into overall case strategy.
  • Deliver clear, practical advice to injured clients about prospects of success, settlement ranges and next procedural steps.
  • Prepare high-quality pleadings, particulars of claim, affidavits, briefs of evidence and offer documents for negotiations or court.
  • Conduct informal and formal settlement talks, including mediation and conciliation conferences, aimed at securing fair outcomes.
  • Assist senior colleagues with court appearances, interlocutory applications and trial preparation when required.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy files and ensure every statutory deadline and client update is met promptly.

Qualifications

  • Around two years of post-admission experience as a solicitor at associate level, preferably gained in medical negligence or personal injury work.
  • Valid New South Wales practising certificate (or immediate eligibility to obtain one).
  • Strong capacity to analyse dense medical and factual material and translate it into sound legal recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills suited to client conferences, expert discussions and opponent correspondence.
  • Willingness to accept close mentoring while also demonstrating initiative on a busy case load.
