C developer for Linux Kernel team

Virtuozzo seeks an experienced C developer to join its Linux Kernel team based in Lithuania. In this contract position, you'll contribute to the core systems that power large-scale virtualisation and container infrastructure worldwide.

Position Summary

As a kernel-level C developer at Virtuozzo, you'll work on low-level Linux systems that form the foundation of our virtualisation platform. This is hands-on development focused on performance, stability, and scalability—working directly with kernel subsystems that thousands of organisations depend on.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain core Linux kernel components including memory management, CPU scheduling, network protocols, and filesystem implementations.
• Design and refine isolation mechanisms for containers and virtual machines, ensuring security and resource control.
• Enhance Linux performance characteristics across large distributed environments running thousands of concurrent workloads.
• Optimise system resource allocation to maximise efficiency in multi-tenant virtualised environments.
• Engage with the Linux kernel community, submitting patches and collaborating with upstream maintainers to integrate improvements.
• Represent Virtuozzo at industry events and conferences including the Open Source Summit, FOSDEM, and Linux Foundation conferences.

Qualifications

Required:

• Demonstrated expertise in C programming with particular strength in systems-level development.
• Solid understanding of at least one major Linux kernel subsystem.
• Working knowledge of system calls, kernel-to-userspace interfaces, and Linux internals.
• Experience debugging kernel code using tools such as kprobes, ftrace, perf, or gdb.
• Fluent English communication for technical discussions, code review, and presentation.

Advantageous:

• Contributions to open-source projects, particularly the Linux kernel or container ecosystem.
• Deep expertise in namespaces, cgroups, or KVM virtualisation.
• Python experience for writing test utilities, automation scripts, or monitoring tools.
• Familiarity with containerisation platforms and kernel build pipelines.
