Senior Engineering Manager, Product Engineering

About This Role

We are representing a fast-growing European B2B SaaS company in the compliance automation space. Our client has built a category-leading platform that helps organizations achieve security certifications faster through intelligent automation and integrations. They've raised significant funding, are on a profitable growth trajectory, and are now expanding their engineering leadership team.

As Senior Engineering Manager, you'll lead a team of 8 engineers and 2 product designers, working directly with the CTO. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance technical contribution with team management, hiring, and process optimization. You'll be expected to ship meaningful features alongside the team while scaling engineering practices to support planned growth to 16+ engineers within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow an 8-person engineering team (targeting 12-16 within 12 months), including hiring, performance management, and 1:1s
• Drive engineering velocity by optimizing development processes, tooling, code review workflows, and team structure
• Ship AI features in production during your first month to establish technical credibility with the team
• Own the technical interview process and make hiring decisions independently
• Maintain quality standards including zero-bug policy, automated testing, and security review processes
• Work closely with product and design on feature prioritization and technical feasibility
• Build with the team regularly enough to validate that engineering practices remain effective at scale
• Implement AI-assisted development workflows using tools like Cursor and Claude Code across the team
• Reduce cycle time from specification to production while maintaining high quality standards
• Eventually coach or hire a second engineering manager to support continued growth

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 8+ years as a software engineer with 4+ years managing teams of 8+ engineers
• Strong IC background as a senior or principal engineer before transitioning to management
• Direct experience shipping AI features to production (RAG, retrieval, agentic workflows)
• Hands-on experience building with Claude Code and Cursor in production environments
• Track record of reducing engineering cycle time and improving team velocity
• Experience hiring engineers and running technical interviews independently
• Product sense: ability to identify when shipped features don't meet quality standards
• Startup experience building zero-to-one or scaling through rapid growth phases
• Based in EMEA, able to work CET/CEST timezone (Germany or UK preferred)
• Strong written communication skills for remote collaboration

Nice to Have:

• Scaled an engineering team to 15+ at a VC-funded startup
• Managed tech leads or other engineering managers
• Previous experience at fully remote companies

Pay
