Founding Operations Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing fintech client in London who is transforming investment infrastructure through AI-driven automation. They administer significant assets and are scaling rapidly—moving from hundreds to thousands of deals annually while keeping their team lean through intelligent automation.

As a Founding Operations Engineer, you'll be embedded in their operations team with a clear mandate: automate everything. This is not a traditional ops role. You'll spend more time building with AI and code than in spreadsheets or email, turning manual service workflows into software that scales.

Responsibilities

• Own deal execution end-to-end, ensuring investments close as quickly as possible for fund managers and sponsors
• Identify automation opportunities across operations workflows and build solutions autonomously using AI, no-code tools, scripts, and lightweight applications
• Work alongside the operations team to systematically eliminate manual work, bringing in engineering resources only when necessary for production-scale systems
• Simplify and streamline processes by questioning conventions, removing unnecessary steps, and applying first principles thinking
• Make strategic decisions about what work belongs in processes and what should be declined—protecting team capacity for high-value, scalable activities
• Maintain deep system knowledge across all operational infrastructure, closing loops and driving execution with meticulous attention to detail

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience building practical solutions with AI, automation tools, scripts, or lightweight applications—either professionally or independently
• Strong numerical fluency and comfort with financial mechanics including allocations, fee calculations, and distributions
• Exceptional execution skills: detail-oriented, proactive, and relentless about getting things done without waiting for permission
• First principles thinker who questions inherited processes, industry conventions, and third-party constraints rather than accepting them
• Background in regulated financial services (fund administration, custody, payments, audit, tax) is valuable but not required
• SQL, advanced Excel, or experience integrating data across systems is a plus
• Preference for hands-on building over management—this is an individual contributor role focused on execution

Role Details

Location: London office, minimum three days per week in-person

Compensation: £70,000–£90,000 base salary plus meaningful equity grant. Mix of cash and equity is flexible based on candidate preference.
