About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential assistive-technology organization serving tens of millions of users worldwide. Our talent team is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Platform team in Reading, working remotely in a fully distributed environment.

This role sits at the foundation of their backend infrastructure—the systems that power payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, analytics, and a public API used by external customers. These are high-stakes, high-volume systems where correctness isn't negotiable. Subscription state must remain consistent across multiple clients and billing platforms. Metering must be accurate enough to bill on and efficient enough to scale. The public API supports external products that depend on uptime and low latency.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own backend APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and a public-facing TTS API
• Inherit existing services and improve their performance, cost efficiency, and resilience
• Validate correctness before deployment and build automated checks to maintain it afterward
• Automate repeatable parts of your workflow, then apply the freed capacity to higher-impact work
• Create reusable patterns and tooling that benefit the entire engineering team
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on top of the platform
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to ensure backend architecture anticipates product direction

What We're Looking For

• Proven backend development experience with TypeScript and Node.js (required)
• Direct hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another major cloud provider
• A track record of delegating or automating work you previously owned, with clear examples of what you built with the capacity that created
• An established daily workflow using AI tooling—you can describe in detail what runs autonomously, what you review, and where human judgment remains necessary
• The instinct to verify results against primary sources (logs, database state, actual requests) rather than summaries or abstractions
• Strong judgment about what not to build, and the ability to articulate why you declined certain paths
• A preference for being corrected over being right
• Preferred: experience with Docker and containerized deployment workflows
• Preferred: experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes

Pay
