Project Manager or Project Officer Biomass Value Chains (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential climate policy organization based in Berlin that is working on industrial decarbonization strategies. Our talent team is seeking a Project Manager or Project Officer to lead work on biomass value chains as sustainable feedstocks for hard-to-electrify industrial applications. This role offers the chance to contribute to meaningful climate solutions through rigorous analysis of biomass availability, costs, and policy frameworks across global regions.

This position sits within a central Technologies & Analysis team and collaborates closely with regional partners worldwide. You'll work on supply-side analysis of biomass feedstocks, examining everything from farm- and forest-level availability to logistics, conversion technologies, and industrial carbon dioxide removal applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement international projects focused on biomass solutions for industrial decarbonization, covering availability, logistics, conversion technologies, and industrial carbon dioxide removal
• Analyze biomass supply costs, availability, and potentials for agriculture and forestry products across multiple geographies, accounting for competing sectoral uses and market dynamics
• Conduct and coordinate projects on biomass applications in industry and related technological enablers and policy mechanisms
• Identify policy and regulatory gaps hindering biomass deployment, with focus on economic, regulatory, and governance frameworks across regions
• Monitor developments in technology and business models for scaling, mobilizing, and integrating biomass value chains and logistics systems
• Engage stakeholders including policymakers, industry representatives, civil society, and funders to inform discussions around biomass in industrial sectors
• Build partnerships and collaborate with network partners globally
• Manage subcontractors including agreements, work plans, project supervision, and quality control of deliverables
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and cross-regional collaboration

Project Officer level: Focus on technical contributions to specific projects, independent research, conceptualization of complex topics, and project-related reporting.

Project Manager level: Full technical management and responsibility for projects, comprehensive independent research, complex topic development, supervision of students and interns, and project communications.

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree in energy, environmental engineering, forestry/agriculture engineering, natural sciences, renewable energies, agricultural economics, or related field
• Project Officer: Approximately 2 years of experience (including internships, student work, or post-graduate roles) in quantitative analysis of biomass systems
• Project Manager: At least 4 years overall professional experience, with 2 years specifically in biomass
• Proven expertise in biomass supply cost analysis, transport logistics, and conversion technologies
• Solid knowledge of farming and forestry sectors
• Strong networking skills and ability to engage with business, industry associations, research partners, and policymakers
• Creative, results-oriented approach with ability to develop impactful ideas and proposals
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated track record of producing high-quality documents
• Full professional proficiency in English; additional languages are advantageous
• Willingness to travel internationally outside Europe

Valued but not required: Familiarity with agricultural and forest systems in different world regions, industrial transformation background, Life-Cycle Assessment experience, knowledge of sustainable biomass certification and deforestation-free frameworks.
