About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential digital transformation consultancy based in Stuttgart. Our client works with enterprise organizations to develop AI-native products and validate new technology solutions that solve real business problems. They are building out their product engineering capability and need a senior technical leader who can take ownership from concept through production.

As Lead Product Engineer, you will play a central role in shaping how new products are architected and delivered. You will bring technical perspective into early decisions, set engineering standards, and build production-grade software yourself. This is not a ticket-processing role—you will own the technical outcomes of product decisions and help scale systems that work in the real world.

This position requires travel flexibility depending on client projects. You may work on-site with clients multiple days per week when projects require it. Remote work is possible when client and project requirements allow, and you should be prepared to attend regular internal events and community meetings in the Stuttgart area.

Responsibilities

• Assess technical feasibility of product opportunities early, evaluating architecture, risks, effort, and implementation viability
• Translate product specifications into sustainable technical solutions and make critical architecture decisions
• Build production software hands-on across the full stack—frontend, backend, data storage, APIs, and operations
• Ensure production readiness from the start: stability, scalability, security, DevOps, observability, maintainability, and operations
• Transform prototypes into production systems by validating technical approaches and building long-term sustainable architectures
• Develop AI-native software systems, understanding where AI adds value, where classical logic is necessary, and how to integrate both into stable products
• Advance AI-assisted software development by using modern coding agents and new engineering approaches, evaluating them critically and integrating them meaningfully
• Shape engineering standards including architecture principles, tooling, development processes, and quality standards

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated track record with production software deployed in real environments
• Prior experience taking ownership of software and understanding operational requirements that emerge from real-world use
• Experience in a product environment or comparable situation with genuine accountability for software quality, utility, and operations
• Ability to structure open, incompletely-defined problems independently, develop solution paths, and determine the right next steps
• Ownership mindset—you take responsibility for outcomes rather than hiding behind large teams or narrowly-defined tickets
• Strong full-stack understanding with ability to develop complete applications independently
• Solid command of modern software development fundamentals: databases, APIs, architecture, testing, cloud, deployment, security, and operations
• Practical experience with LLMs, AI agents, and AI-based applications, understanding how these integrate with classical software logic
• Productive use of coding agents and AI-assisted development tools with realistic assessment of their capabilities and limitations
• Balance of high quality standards with pragmatism—avoiding both overengineering and short-term solutions that create future technical debt
• Hands-on work style that validates technical decisions through code and real systems
• Excellent English language skills required; German is advantageous but not mandatory
• No specific degree required—technical judgment, practical experience, and ability to develop production software holistically are what matter
