About This Opportunity
We are representing a leading European early-stage venture capital firm seeking a Master's thesis candidate or intern to join their specialized Data & AI team. Our client operates at the intersection of applied research and venture capital, building investment intelligence infrastructure that directly informs funding decisions.
This is a hands-on research role where you will work alongside investors, AI researchers, and engineers. You will be treated as a full team member, taking research questions from literature review through working prototype and presenting results to decision-makers. The position is based in Munich, Germany, for a six-month engagement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct applied research at the intersection of machine learning and venture capital intelligence
- Take ownership of a research question from initial literature review through working prototype implementation
- Build production-quality code that integrates with existing investment data infrastructure
- Present research findings and technical results to investment team stakeholders
- Work with proprietary venture data using graph databases, LLM tooling, or probabilistic modeling frameworks
- Collaborate with AI researchers and engineers on projects spanning graph neural networks, program-aided language models, or Bayesian updating systems
- Utilize AI-assisted coding tools responsibly while maintaining code quality standards
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field at a top university
- Strong Python development skills with clean, modular coding practices
- Solid machine learning and statistics fundamentals
- Depth or strong ambition in at least one relevant area: graph ML and graph databases (PyTorch Geometric), LLM tooling and evaluation, or probabilistic modeling (PyMC, NumPyro)
- Experience running independent projects where you set direction yourself
- Fluent English for technical communication, writing, and presentations
- Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools, including understanding their limitations and when to review generated output
- Strong judgment about code quality and ability to identify when AI-generated code requires revision
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily direction while seeking mentorship when needed
Preferred:
- German language skills helpful but not required
- GitHub portfolio or code samples demonstrating relevant technical work
- Interest in venture capital or startup ecosystems
How We Work With You
Candidates apply directly through Get A Job.ai. Our talent team will conduct an initial screening to assess technical fit and research interests. Qualified candidates will be submitted to our client for consideration. Please do not contact the client organization directly—all communication flows through our recruiting team to ensure a professional process.
Once engaged, you will receive mentorship, context, and access to the full team, but will be expected to work with significant autonomy. The role emphasizes taking rough problem statements, developing approaches independently, sharing drafts early, and flagging blockers proactively. Academic supervision is available for certain university programs, though candidates may arrange their own supervisors.
The work environment includes desk space at a Munich innovation hub, access to a broader entrepreneurship ecosystem, team lunches, regular social events, sports classes, and makerspace access for personal projects. You will receive either a MacBook or Windows laptop based on preference, plus full access to the AI development stack used by the team.
Pay
Compensation details will be discussed during the interview process. Our client offers an attractive salary for the full six-month master thesis or internship period.
