About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics organization based in Munich that is building next-generation autonomous perception systems. Our talent team is seeking an experienced ML Data Engineer to own the complete data foundation that powers their object detection and multi-sensor perception capabilities.

This is a senior technical role where you'll architect scalable data pipelines, drive dataset strategy, and establish the quality standards that directly impact model performance in production environments. You'll work cross-functionally with AI engineers, perception teams, and robotics specialists in an international, collaborative setting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and own end-to-end ML data pipelines for processing large volumes of time-series camera and multi-sensor data including RGB, IR, thermal, depth, and IMU streams
  • Establish and execute the technical strategy for object detection datasets, ensuring statistical representativeness, diversity, and production-grade quality at scale
  • Build and operate active learning systems that connect model performance metrics directly to data selection and continuous improvement priorities
  • Own labeling workflows comprehensively—from tooling selection and QA methodology to annotation coordination and consistency enforcement
  • Partner with AI engineers to diagnose model weaknesses, bias, and drift, translating findings into actionable dataset strategies
  • Plan and lead field data collection campaigns to address gaps with high-value real-world sensor data
  • Develop internal tools and dashboards providing organizational visibility into dataset quality, distribution, and performance metrics
  • Make architectural decisions on data ingestion, storage, versioning, and lifecycle management for computer vision workflows

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on Python experience with data processing frameworks including Pandas, NumPy, vectorized operations, and multiprocessing
  • Proven track record building and owning ETL/ELT pipelines for large-scale video and sensor datasets in production environments
  • Deep experience with data orchestration and ML lifecycle management, including dataset versioning and reproducibility practices
  • Strong command of object detection frameworks such as Detectron2, MMDetection, COCO format, and bounding-box standards
  • Demonstrated experience designing active learning, uncertainty sampling, or semi-supervised dataset workflows
  • Deep familiarity with annotation platforms like CVAT or Label Studio, and building automated QA and consistency validation systems
  • Strong grasp of evaluation metrics including IoU, mAP, precision-recall curves, and class-wise performance analysis
  • Comfortable making decisions around databases (SQL/NoSQL), file systems, and large-scale image, video, and sensor dataset management
  • Track record of cross-functional collaboration and influencing technical direction across perception, deployment, and data infrastructure teams
  • Fluent English required; German and/or French are advantageous
  • NATO-aligned nationality or close ally citizenship is required

Nice to have:

  • Experience with cloud storage and MLOps tools such as AWS S3, MinIO, ClearML, MLFlow, or Weights & Biases
  • Familiarity with robotics data formats including ROS bag files, TF trees, sensor_msgs, Docker, or embedded ML workflows
  • Prior work with multi-sensor perception systems involving IR, LiDAR, radar, or audio datasets
  • Outside-the-box creativity combined with systematic design thinking
  • Extra-curricular achievements, leadership experience, or unique technical projects
