Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential deep-tech organization in the battery recycling sector. They are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to lead technical efforts in design, scale-up, commissioning, and ramp-up of industrial recycling processes. This role sits at the critical intersection of technology development, process engineering, and industrial scale-up, with a focus on hydrometallurgical extraction processes.

You will translate experimental and operational data into robust process designs, challenge engineering assumptions, and ensure future facilities are built on solid fundamentals. Working closely with R&D, Operations, and external engineering partners, you will drive activities across engineering design, commissioning, and process development.

Responsibilities

• Future Plant Design & Scale-up: Own key process design activities for next-generation facilities. Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, process descriptions, and equipment specifications. Translate pilot and industrial operating data into reliable engineering design criteria and perform process calculations and equipment sizing.
• Process Expertise & Optimization: Serve as technical reference for critical process steps involving graphite and lithium extraction. Apply chemical engineering fundamentals to optimize yield, purity, and process stability. Work closely with R&D and Operations while maintaining focus on process performance and technology development.
• Data Analysis & Process Modeling: Evaluate operational and experimental data, build and validate mass balances and process models, and identify performance gaps. Define data collection requirements to support scale-up decisions and guide technical teams to ensure models remain grounded in physical and chemical reality.
• Commissioning & Process Validation: Participate in FATs/SATs, commissioning activities, and performance validation for new equipment and plant expansions. Develop acceptance criteria based on design intent and evaluate data to confirm installed systems achieve calculated performance targets.
• Operational Readiness & Process Safety: Translate process design into clear Standard Operating Procedures, operating envelopes, and process documentation. Participate actively in HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other safety reviews to identify and address process risks during design.
• Vendor & EPC Coordination: Represent process requirements with external engineering partners and equipment suppliers. Prepare and review technical specifications, challenge unsupported assumptions, and support technical bid evaluations while balancing performance, CAPEX, operability, and scalability.

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related technical field
• Ideally 5+ years of experience in process engineering within chemical, hydrometallurgy, battery, mining, minerals, recycling, or related process industries
• Strong experience with process design and scale-up, including PFDs, P&IDs, mass/energy balances, and equipment sizing
• Comfortable working with industrial datasets and translating operational data into engineering models and decisions
• Experience with solid-liquid separation, precipitation, flotation, hydrometallurgy, or mineral processing highly valuable
• Specific expertise in graphite and lithium extraction and post-processing is highly preferred
• Strong experience supporting commissioning and process validation of industrial equipment or plants
• Familiarity with process safety methodologies such as HAZOP and LOPA
• Able to critically review vendor proposals and confidently challenge technical assumptions
• Strong communicator who can work effectively across R&D, Engineering, Operations, suppliers, and EPC partners
• Fluent English required; German is a plus
• Located in or willing to relocate to the Munich area (Karlsfeld)
