Underwriter – Surety

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential insurance organization that is expanding its surety underwriting team. This role offers the opportunity to assess risk, build broker relationships, and contribute to profitable growth in the surety sector. Our client is considering candidates located in Southern Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North or South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, or Alabama.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate surety bond applications to determine risk levels and appropriate underwriting terms
• Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and supporting documents to assess applicant financial stability
• Collaborate with brokers, agents, and clients to gather information necessary for thorough bond risk analysis
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and industry professionals
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters or team members
• Monitor industry trends, regulations, underwriting best practices, and competitive landscape
• Coordinate with internal teams to implement bond types and risk assessments in surety platforms
• Stay current on obligee requirements and statutory changes affecting surety bonds
• Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting, or related field preferred
• 2+ years of experience in surety underwriting or a closely related field
• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to interpret financial data
• Knowledge of surety bond principles, including indemnity agreements and bond forms
• Excellent decision-making capabilities and attention to detail
• Proficiency with underwriting software and tools
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively
• Willingness to travel 10-20% of the time
• Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. (our client cannot sponsor or assume visa sponsorship)
