Principal Quality Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client in their search for a Principal Quality Engineer. This is a fully remote position open to candidates worldwide.

Our client has built a solid quality engineering foundation with shared standards, working CI/CD gates, and AI-integrated tooling. What they're missing is dedicated leadership to unify their QA practice, drive continuous improvement, and push the discipline forward as the organization scales. This role fills that strategic gap.

You'll report directly to the Head of Engineering and own the technical vision for quality across the entire engineering organization. While this isn't a traditional QA management role on day one, you'll mentor QA engineers across all squads and could grow into direct people management as the team expands.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the company-wide quality engineering roadmap and accountability framework that defines what engineers, engineering managers, and product managers each own throughout the software development lifecycle
• Design and maintain test strategy across the full stack: unit, component, contract, API, end-to-end, mobile, and non-functional testing including performance, load, and accessibility
• Lead AI-native quality tooling initiatives, including Claude Code-style agents and skills that engineers can run on-demand for test generation, code review, and quality guidance
• Manage CI/CD and test infrastructure including required checks, quality gates, E2E and visual regression pipelines, performance budgets, and mobile test automation across emulators and real device clouds
• Establish production quality monitoring tied to incident response with dashboards teams actually use
• Provide technical mentorship to QA engineers across all product squads, contributing input to their performance reviews while they report to their respective engineering managers
• Continuously research and test new approaches, tools, and AI capabilities to keep the quality practice state-of-the-art

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• Proven experience using AI for quality work, specifically test generation—you've already set up agentic tooling like Claude Code or MCP-based workflows that engineers can run for on-demand test generation or code review
• Deep hands-on experience building and maintaining test suites across the entire test pyramid: component, contract, API, E2E, and performance testing
• Strong ability to design testing approaches based on team maturity and context rather than imposing predetermined frameworks or coverage targets
• Direct experience building CI/CD pipelines and test infrastructure, with the technical depth to unblock engineering teams when deployments are stuck
• Excellent mentoring and enablement skills—you can coach engineers on testing practices while still shipping infrastructure and tooling yourself
• Comfort leading through influence rather than direct authority, at least initially, with the ability to drive discipline-wide improvements across distributed teams

Strongly Preferred:

• Previous experience hiring, coaching, and managing performance for QA or engineering teams (this role may evolve to include direct management as the squad grows)

This role is not a fit if:

• You're primarily looking for traditional QA management with day-one direct reports and career management responsibilities
• You prefer to arrive with a pre-packaged process or favorite tool stack and mandate it regardless of organizational context
• Your AI tool experience is limited to personal productivity rather than team-scale quality automation
• You avoid hands-on infrastructure work in favor of advisory-only responsibilities
• Your test automation experience is primarily reviewing dashboards rather than building test suites yourself

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $80,000–$100,000 USD annually

This is a fully remote position with flexible PTO. Success is measured on outcomes rather than hours logged.
