About This Opportunity

We are representing a growing, family-owned technology organization in the Freiburg area that develops hardware and software solutions for industrial machine vision and automation. Their systems are deployed in over 15,000 machines worldwide.

As a Linux System Administrator, you'll join a deliberately lean IT department with significant influence over technical direction. Rather than rigid corporate structures, you'll experience short decision paths, direct collaboration with leadership, and the opportunity to actively shape technical decisions.

The technology focus is firmly on Linux and Open Source. Over the coming years, exciting projects await: migrating existing applications to Open Source alternatives, expanding cyber security and resilience capabilities, and continuously developing an internal Linux-based AI server.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the Linux system landscape and associated network and IT infrastructure
• Develop existing systems forward and support migrations from standard software to appropriate Open Source alternatives
• Work with virtualization and automation technologies including Proxmox, Docker, vSphere, Python, and Ansible
• Advance security and resilience capabilities, addressing technical requirements around NIS 2, GDPR, CRA, and TISAX
• Maintain and expand the company's Linux-based AI server infrastructure, creating secure infrastructure for internal AI use
• Resolve complex internal IT issues for primarily technically-versed users, focusing on second and third-level support

What We're Looking For

• Completed training as IT specialist/system administrator, completed degree in computer science, or comparable qualification
• Minimum 2 years professional experience with clear focus on Linux administration after completing your training or degree
• Very strong Linux knowledge - you already work routinely with Linux and don't need to familiarize yourself with the operating system
• Solid understanding of network technology, network protocols, and IT infrastructure
• Experience with virtualization or container technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, or vSphere
• Knowledge of automation, for example with Python, Ansible, or comparable technologies
• Enthusiasm for Open Source and interest in building an IT landscape on open and secure solutions long-term
• Fluent German at C1 level minimum and fluent English
• Independent, pragmatic working style with desire to actively shape technical decisions and try new solutions together with the team
• Knowledge of Nextcloud, Open Xchange, Nginx, pfSense, OpenVPN, Git, or Ceph as well as IT Security experience are advantageous

Location: Hybrid in Freiburg area - typically one day per week remote, with additional flexibility possible by arrangement

Pay

Annual base salary from €60,000 with willingness to significantly exceed this based on qualifications and experience. Additional performance-based annual bonus linked to company success (in successful years this has reached several thousand euros).
