AI Engineering Intern

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI software company working at the frontier of intelligent systems. Our client is building the next generation of adaptive software platforms, and they need exceptional engineering talent to help shape that future.

This is a highly selective AI Engineering Internship based in London. You'll work directly on production systems that learn, adapt, and improve themselves—building agents, training models, and creating the infrastructure that makes self-improving software reliable enough for real customers.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve AI agents that review their own work, learn from corrections, and update their behavior based on real-world performance
• Train, fine-tune, and deploy state-of-the-art language models, running experiments to validate improvements before production release
• Take end-to-end ownership of agent systems, from design through deployment and customer interaction
• Develop evaluation frameworks and review tools that catch failures before they reach users
• Apply machine learning techniques including clustering, dimensionality reduction, and ensemble methods to enhance agent capabilities
• Own projects from scoping through delivery, debugging regressions and ensuring reliability

What We're Looking For

Mandatory requirements (both must be met):

• Currently enrolled at University of Oxford or University of Cambridge
• Silver medal or higher at International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) or International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), or demonstrable equivalent achievement in another highly competitive field

Technical qualifications:

• Strong programming skills with evidence of building beyond coursework—models, agents, tools, or applications that solve real problems
• Hands-on experience with AI tooling: LLM APIs, agent frameworks, model fine-tuning, or automated workflows
• A systematic approach to debugging—investigating root causes and validating that fixes address the underlying issue
• Clear technical communication: ability to explain decisions, document what you tried, and articulate why approaches succeeded or failed
• Curiosity to explore unfamiliar domains, discipline to test assumptions, and persistence when initial approaches don't work

Valued but not required: Open-source contributions, deployed models in production, experience building evaluation pipelines.

Pay
