About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential banking technology organization in their search for a Director of Solution Engineering based in the United States. Our client is a globally recognized platform provider serving financial institutions and fintechs with modern, cloud-native banking solutions.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role with ownership of the sales engineering function. You will run technical discovery with financial institutions, design target architectures, defend those designs through enterprise review processes, and stay on deals through signature. You'll be building belief in complex platform solutions with organizations that have decades of accumulated systems.
Responsibilities
- Platform expertise: Gain in-depth, hands-on understanding of the full technology stack including processing, issuing, core banking, deposits, lending, payments, fraud, loyalty, digital banking, and AI capabilities. This means first-hand knowledge of modules, APIs, extension points, events, data models, and deployment architectures.
- Discovery and solution design: Run technical discovery inside institutions with large existing estates. Assemble solutions across multiple platforms, decide scope and phasing, and craft solutions on the fly during customer calls with the ability to demonstrate them live.
- Architecture and integration: Produce target architecture and integration designs against existing core, ledger, data, and channel systems. Design coexistence strategies—what moves first, what runs in parallel, what gets decommissioned and when. Build reusable reference architectures.
- Demos and proofs: Build and maintain demo environments covering real banking workflows. Design and run proofs of concept, bake-offs, and tabletop exercises against criteria you help customers define.
- Enterprise evaluation: Own technical RFP/RFI responses, security questionnaires, audit reviews, and vendor due diligence. Create clear technical diagrams and carry the technical case through architecture review boards, security review, and procurement.
- Partner enablement: Serve as technical counterpart to banking service provider partners through evaluation and integration. Enable their teams to position and demonstrate capabilities independently.
- Competitive intelligence: Maintain working analysis of the competitive field and position against customer beliefs. Understand where competitors are genuinely better placed and requalify accordingly.
- Thought leadership: Work with marketing on technical content—articles, whitepapers, videos, case studies. Speak at industry events and support analyst engagement. Feed field evidence back to product teams.
What We're Looking For
- 12+ years of experience across technology and commercial roles, combining software development, product management, pre-sales, and/or customer success—ideally in banking technology
- Substantial experience selling technology into US banks or credit unions with a track record of navigating enterprise architecture, information security, and procurement review
- Breadth across the banking technology stack (core, deposits, payments, cards, lending, digital channels) with genuine hands-on depth in at least two areas
- Experience with core or platform migration and coexistence in live institutions strongly preferred
- Computer science or engineering degree required
- Technical depth: Command of cloud-native banking platform architecture, APIs, events, and data models across enough of the stack to assemble integrated propositions
- Architectural judgment: Ability to design target states, sequence migration paths, and defend both to institutional architects
- On-the-fly problem solving: Connect the dots and solve live when questions land mid-call
- Sales acumen: Understanding where deals actually stand and patience for quarter-long evaluations that may change sponsors
- Communication skills: Present technical concepts to non-technical audiences and hold your own with engineers. Confident presenter in customer meetings, conferences, and analyst briefings
- Ownership mentality: Thrive in a 0-to-1 motion with no team beneath you and shifting priorities
