About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential client in the advertising and marketing sector who needs a senior creative leader to drive high-impact work for a major enterprise retail account. This freelance Executive Creative Director role is based in the New York or Boston area and runs through December 2026.
Our client operates in a fast-paced retail environment where creative work must perform across brand campaigns, commerce, digital, social, in-store, and promotional channels. You'll partner with agency leadership and client teams to deliver distinctive, executable creative that drives both brand perception and commercial results.
Responsibilities
As Executive Creative Director, you will:
- Lead integrated retail creative across brand campaigns, promotional moments, loyalty programs, retail media, digital commerce, social content, in-store experiences, and shopper touchpoints
- Translate business objectives, customer insights, and merchandising priorities into strategically sharp creative that moves brand perception and commercial outcomes
- Guide cross-functional teams from brief through concept, presentation, refinement, production, and delivery while maintaining creative standards within timing and budget constraints
- Build trust quickly with internal teams and senior client stakeholders, bringing clarity and creative authority to fast-moving discussions
- Present creative work with confidence and business rationale, helping clients understand why ideas will matter
- Direct art directors, copywriters, designers, and production partners with clear feedback and high standards
- Manage multiple workstreams and timelines, escalating risks early and keeping teams focused on high-value creative decisions
- Shape creative reviews, internal checkpoints, and client presentations to advance work with focus and quality
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years of creative experience with senior creative leadership in agency, retail, commerce, or integrated marketing environments
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise retail or similarly complex, high-volume client work with multiple stakeholders and approval layers
- Strong portfolio showing integrated creative leadership across brand, digital, social, content, retail media, shopper, experiential, film/video, and in-store touchpoints
- Deep understanding of enterprise retail ecosystems, including promotional calendars, compliance considerations, modular toolkits, and production efficiency requirements
- Proven ability to balance breakthrough thinking with practical retail realities
- Experience leading teams, presenting to senior clients, and delivering commercially effective work
- Ability to onboard quickly and establish productive working rhythms in freelance engagements
- Bachelor's degree, portfolio school background, or equivalent professional experience in advertising, design, marketing, or communications
- Must be located in or willing to work from the New York or Boston area
