About This Opportunity
We are representing a mission-driven ecommerce company in their search for a Senior Software Engineer, Front End / Full Stack. Our client is a fast-growing consumer products organization with a modern engineering culture built on autonomy, collaboration, and shared ownership.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone whose strength is the front end, but who follows problems wherever they lead—into APIs, data models, third-party integrations, and build pipelines. You'll lead projects end to end, partnering closely with product and design teams to ship measured outcomes that matter to the business.
The tech stack evolves frequently. Parts of the storefront run on Shopify today, but the architecture has changed before and will change again. We need someone who can walk into unfamiliar territory, figure out how it works, and make sound decisions quickly.
This is remote for candidates based in California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, Colorado, Washington, Illinois, New York, Missouri, and Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
- Project leadership: Lead front end and full stack initiatives from ambiguous problem statements to shipped, measured outcomes. Make architecture calls, sequence work, and manage tradeoffs.
- Product and design partnership: Work directly with product managers and designers. We expect you to have opinions about the user experience itself, not just implementation details.
- Craft and quality: Own performance, stability, accessibility, and maintainability in the code you and your team ship, at the scale our client operates.
- Ecosystem integration: Partner across third-party systems—mobile apps, subscription services, analytics, search, loyalty programs—to build cohesive experiences.
- AI-assisted development: Use AI tooling as a force multiplier while maintaining high quality standards. You should be able to read what a model produces, disagree when appropriate, and explain why.
- Design system collaboration: Partner with UX to define and scale the design system and UI component library.
- Measurement: Work with analytics teams to ensure proper tracking exists to validate whether shipped features achieve their goals.
- Best practices: Champion testing, documentation, and workflows that benefit the entire engineering team.
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- 7+ years building and operating production web applications, with the front end as your strongest area
- Deep expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript, at least one modern component framework (React, Vue, Svelte, or similar), state management, and performance optimization for consumer-facing applications
- Genuine comfort working across the stack—APIs, data models, integrations, CI, browser, and infrastructure
- Track record of quickly becoming productive in unfamiliar frameworks, languages, or platforms. You evaluate new tools on their merits rather than defaulting to what you already know.
- Honesty about what you don't know. You can say "I haven't worked with that" without hesitation, and you don't cover gaps with confident guesses.
- Experience leading projects, not just tickets. You've taken vague requirements, made them concrete, brought others along, and shipped results.
- Product and design thinking. You notice confusing flows, push back on specs that don't serve customers, and distinguish meaningful polish from unnecessary work.
- Strong collaboration skills. You give direct feedback kindly, receive it well, and people want you on their projects.
- Clear written communication. You can explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders without jargon, and your code decisions remain legible months later.
- Real ownership and pride in the experiences you ship and the code you leave behind
Preferred experience:
- Familiarity with ecommerce platforms, particularly Shopify (Liquid, Online Store 2.0, Storefront and Cart APIs, Checkout Extensions)
- Experience at fast-growing ecommerce companies with high SKU counts and high-velocity traffic
- Subscription commerce experience, including billing, scheduling, and customer expectations
- Proficiency with GraphQL; familiarity with Alpine.js
- Experience with testing tools such as Vitest, Jest, Cypress, or Playwright
- Strong understanding of Git workflows and CI systems like GitHub Actions
- Strong sense of design, accessibility, and user empathy
- Experience with A/B testing and experimentation platforms
About AI tooling: Our client uses AI tooling daily as part of the engineering workflow. They're looking for someone who enjoys these tools and continues improving with them, while maintaining independent judgment. You should be able to read model-generated code, disagree when appropriate, and explain your reasoning—about architecture, correctness, or whether something should be built at all. The goal is moving faster without compromising standards.
The interview process includes a take-home project and a working review session covering system design, coding, product thinking, and how you use AI. There are no algorithm quizzes or LeetCode rounds.
