Associate Software Engineer, Marketplace

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential transportation technology company in their search for an Associate Software Engineer to join their Marketplace Engineering team. Our client operates a modern platform serving thousands of organizations across North America, and they recently completed significant growth funding that has positioned them for an exciting expansion phase.

This role focuses on building marketplace solutions that connect fleet operators with maintenance providers, facilitating service transactions, approvals, billing, and payment processing. You'll work on integrations that help customers manage external maintenance activities and gain valuable service insights.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and implement features for a two-sided marketplace platform connecting customers with service vendors
• Build and maintain functionality for service transactions, approvals, payments, and billing workflows
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Quality Engineers to deliver high-quality software consistently
• Participate in collaborative design and architecture discussions for new features
• Write well-tested, maintainable, and performant code using modern development practices
• Research and implement prototypes to validate technical feasibility and assumptions
• Conduct thorough peer code reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and knowledge sharing
• Contribute actively to development planning and technical decision-making processes

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 2+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and/or TypeScript
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles
• Solid experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
• Proven ability to solve challenging architecture problems with thoughtful design
• Experience with unit testing frameworks and test-driven development
• Excellent written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and quality, with ability to make appropriate technical tradeoffs

Valued Additional Skills:

• Data modeling expertise and query performance optimization
• Experience leading small teams or projects
• Knowledge of the fleet management or transportation industry
• Background building APIs for mobile app consumption
• Experience integrating external third-party APIs
• Previous work on two-sided marketplace or payment solutions
