Robotics Software Engineer Intern – Swarm Systems (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics organization based in Munich developing autonomous multi-agent systems. This is a 3–6 month full-time internship working on coordinated robotic platforms operating in real-world environments. You'll contribute to simulation infrastructure, system observability tooling, and core robotics software alongside experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop data-driven dashboards and monitoring tools to analyze and visualize autonomous system performance
• Extend simulation frameworks with key performance indicators, automated test scenarios, and evaluation workflows
• Analyze data from simulation and field testing to identify system issues and improvement opportunities
• Contribute to the core robotics stack in areas including estimation, perception, planning, control, or mission execution
• Develop and validate software tested on real robotic hardware and field deployments
• Collaborate with robotics, simulation, embedded, and domain specialists in an agile team environment

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Currently pursuing or recently completed Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Autonomous Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Strong programming skills in C++, ideally modern C++ (17/20)
• Solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
• Basic understanding of robotics concepts: coordinate frames, sensor data, estimation, planning, or control
• Comfortable working in Linux environments
• NATO-aligned or close ally citizenship required
• Genuine interest in autonomous systems and robotics technology
• Able to work independently while actively seeking feedback on technical challenges

Nice to Have (experience from university projects, research, student teams, personal projects, or internships):

• Experience with ROS or ROS 2
• Hands-on work with real robots, embedded systems, or hardware-in-the-loop setups
• Exposure to SLAM, navigation, computer vision, filtering, or planning algorithms
• Interest or experience in multi-agent systems or distributed robotics
• Experience with LiDAR or camera data processing
• Exposure to autopilot systems or flight controllers
• Experience with simulation frameworks (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Unreal Engine)
• Familiarity with embedded platforms, GPUs, or networking
• Exposure to machine learning methods
• Extra-curricular engineering projects, robotics competitions, or research achievements
