Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE): United Kingdom

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI consulting organization that partners with enterprise clients to build AI-native engineering practices. This Forward Deployed Engineer role embeds you directly with major customers across the UK, leading technical transformation from initial discovery through production deployment.

You'll work at the intersection of software engineering and AI adoption—helping customer engineering teams redesign how they build software, deploying agentic applications into production, and expanding AI capabilities into business operations. This is a remote UK position with approximately 20% travel to client sites.

Responsibilities

• Enable customer teams: Lead workshops and hands-on training sessions that take engineering teams from beginner to advanced AI-native development practices
• Technical discovery and planning: Assess customer environments including engineering toolchains, workflows, and organizational dynamics; translate findings into clear technical roadmaps
• Co-build solutions: Embed with customer teams to scope and deliver agentic applications, evaluation frameworks, and deployment configurations tailored to their technology stack
• Guide transformation: Advise on how AI-native development changes existing practices across issue management, branching strategies, testing, code review, and security
• Scale adoption: Design and lead programs that expand AI capabilities across engineering organizations and into business functions like sales, customer service, and finance
• Build reusable assets: Create technical artifacts and deployment patterns that can be leveraged across multiple engagements

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3–5 years in a customer-facing technical role (Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Technical Consultant) or hands-on Software Engineer/Product Engineer position
• Software development experience in high-scale startup or enterprise environments with production code delivery and operations
• Production experience with large language models including prompt engineering, agent design, and evaluation frameworks
• Power user of AI coding assistants; you actively work in AI-native development workflows
• Familiarity with enterprise development toolchains, CI/CD pipelines, modern SDLC practices, and cloud-native deployment (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Strong communication skills across technical and business stakeholders—individual contributors through executive leadership
• High agency and comfort operating autonomously in ambiguous customer environments

• Professional services or consulting background
• Track record leading developer productivity or developer experience initiatives at scale
• Experience in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare)
• Demonstrated success driving organizational change programs
