Role Overview
As an Assistant Coach for Girls Swimming at Pueblo West High School, you will work directly with the head coach to develop athletes' technical skills, build team cohesion, and foster a culture of sportsmanship and excellence. You'll contribute to the design and execution of practice plans, oversee training sessions, and provide meaningful feedback to help swimmers improve performance. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and delivering practice sessions that improve swimmers' technique, conditioning, and race strategy
- Provide constructive coaching feedback and monitor athlete progress throughout the season
- Support athlete safety and well-being both in and out of the water, adhering to all district and state athletics guidelines
- Help recruit, motivate, and mentor team members across all skill levels
- Contribute to team planning, meet preparation, and competition logistics
- Maintain equipment and facility standards in the pool area
- Attend coaching clinics, professional development, and team meetings as required
What We're Looking For
- Valid teaching certificate or equivalent coaching credential required by Colorado and Pueblo School District 70
- Demonstrated knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training principles, and age-appropriate coaching methods
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience working with young athletes
- Commitment to Title IX compliance and athlete welfare standards
- Ability to manage a dynamic team environment and collaborate effectively with coaching staff
