What This Role Involves

As a Crisis Peer Support Specialist, you'll be on the front lines of mental health crisis intervention and peer support. Your unique perspective, grounded in personal recovery experience, enables you to connect authentically with individuals in distress and help them move toward stability and hope. You'll work collaboratively within our clinical team, applying evidence-based de-escalation techniques and your own resilience as tools for supporting others through acute mental health episodes.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate, empathetic support to individuals experiencing mental health crises
  • Use active listening and validation to help clients feel heard and understood
  • Assist with de-escalation and safety planning during acute episodes
  • Connect clients with appropriate mental health resources and follow-up care
  • Maintain thorough, confidential documentation of client interactions
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to develop and implement peer support strategies
  • Attend trainings and participate in ongoing professional development
  • Uphold all organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, and clinical standards

Skills & Qualifications

  • Lived experience with mental health recovery or personal crisis navigation
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and non-judgmental approach to others
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive under pressure
  • Willingness to work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain it
  • Reliable transportation and ability to meet scheduling requirements
