About This Position

Hrhs is seeking a dedicated Crisis Response Peer Support specialist for Horizons Reno County. You'll serve as a frontline crisis responder, offering peer-based support during mental health emergencies. Your lived experience combined with crisis intervention skills makes you uniquely qualified to de-escalate situations, stabilize individuals in acute distress, and connect them with ongoing care resources. This full-time position is critical to our community's crisis response infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Respond to crisis calls and in-person emergencies with immediate peer support and de-escalation strategies
• Provide empathetic, active listening and emotional validation to individuals in acute mental health crisis
• Assist individuals in identifying safety plans, personal coping strategies, and community resources
• Document crisis interactions, assessments, and referral outcomes with accuracy and completeness
• Collaborate with clinical staff, emergency responders, and partner agencies during crisis intervention
• Facilitate appropriate handoffs to mental health professionals, medical providers, or emergency services
• Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in all peer support communications
• Participate in ongoing crisis intervention training and professional skill development

Qualifications

• Lived experience with mental health recovery or personal resilience following crisis (core qualification)
• High school diploma or equivalent credential
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm, focused, and grounded during high-stress situations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse populations
• Ability to respond in-person to crisis situations and provide direct peer support
• Valid driver's license and dependable personal transportation
• Openness to mental health training, crisis certification programs, and continuing education
• CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to or shortly after hire
