Working Student – Hardware Engineering (UAS Propulsion & Power) (all genders)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology client in Berlin seeking a Working Student to support their Hardware Engineering team focused on unmanned aerial systems. This is a hands-on role where you'll work directly with propulsion and power systems—the components that determine flight performance, range, and endurance.

You'll contribute to bench characterization, test data analysis, and component evaluation work that directly influences what hardware gets deployed on operational platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for engineering students interested in unmanned systems, electric propulsion, and power systems engineering.

Responsibilities

• Support characterization and bench testing of motors, propellers, batteries, and power components for unmanned platforms
• Set up test rigs and instrumentation to capture clean, repeatable measurement data
• Assist with component selection and trade-off analysis by processing test data into clear comparisons
• Analyze test data using MATLAB and Python—efficiency curves, thrust measurements, endurance profiles, thermal behavior, and discharge characteristics
• Create visualizations that enable engineering teams to make rapid, data-driven decisions
• Maintain documentation of test setups, measurements, and findings with full traceability

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or comparable engineering discipline
• Working knowledge of MATLAB and Python for data analysis
• Interest in and some exposure to unmanned aerial systems, electric propulsion (motors/ESCs), or battery/power systems
• Must be a citizen of a NATO member state (due to export control and security regulations)
• Practical, hands-on mindset—comfortable working at the bench with instrumentation as well as in code
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; German is a plus
• Rigorous approach—you trust clean measurements over assumptions
• Curiosity about why components behave the way they do

Preferred:

• Experience with test benches, data acquisition systems, or measurement instrumentation
• Familiarity with battery testing, thermal behavior analysis, or motor/propeller characterization
• Personal projects involving drones, RC aircraft, batteries, or robotics
