Research Data Manager (PostDoc) for mapping harvesting relationships (KTS-84)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential research organization in Köln that conducts work at the intersection of information retrieval, natural language processing, and semantic technologies. They are seeking a Research Data Manager at the postdoctoral level to lead a project focused on mapping metadata harvesting relationships across German research data services.

This is a three-year limited position starting October 1, 2026, working full-time (100%) in Cologne. The role combines technical metadata expertise with community networking to improve the visibility and discoverability of research data.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate a project that maps how metadata propagates between data collection services
• Set up automated systems for metadata collection leveraging AI tools
• Network within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and related research data organizations to promote project goals
• Organize networking events and stakeholder engagement activities
• Conduct research on knowledge graphs, information extraction, and metadata transformation
• Work with data services and harvesters to develop best practices for metadata presentation
• Wrangle, model, and analyze metadata at scale

What We're Looking For

• Completed PhD in Computer Science, Social Science, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in Research Data Management, ideally within the NFDI context or with services that harvest research metadata
• Technical experience handling, curating, harvesting, and/or extracting research metadata
• Proven research record in knowledge graphs and/or information extraction
• Excellent English communication skills (German language skills are a plus)
• Strong networking capabilities within research data communities
• Ability to balance technical work with stakeholder coordination
