Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential bioinformatics software organization in their search for a VP of Software Engineering. This is a remote role based in the United States, reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer.

You will lead engineering for a large-scale genomics research platform—approximately 130 containerized services running multi-cloud in both commercial and FedRAMP Moderate environments. Scientists use this platform to execute containerized workflows over petabyte-scale genomic datasets. Current strategic priorities include federated data management, compliance as a product capability, and governed AI integration.

This role balances 40% hands-on technical work with 60% people leadership and organizational delivery. The engineering team is distributed primarily across India and Serbia, requiring daily collaboration across multiple time zones.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and architecture roadmap for the platform over the next three years
• Lead architecture decisions of record, design reviews, multi-tenant isolation strategies, and service complexity reduction
• Maintain modern delivery governance: infrastructure-as-code under CI with policy-as-code, short-lived credentials, progressive rollout, and audit-compliant change evidence
• Own reliability engineering: establish SLOs and error budgets on critical customer paths, design effective on-call rotations across two sites, and convert recurring incidents into architectural improvements
• Ship governed AI capabilities both in-product and in the development process, under co-owned governance policies with Risk & Compliance
• Build management depth and specialist skills to support roadmap execution while maintaining team health through growth
• Hold architecture authority and co-own boundary decisions with security, federal compliance, and quality leadership
• Partner with cross-business AI Engineering teams and stakeholders across time zones

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 12+ years in software engineering, including several years leading multi-team organizations through managers
• Distributed-systems and platform architecture ownership at scale—multi-tenant isolation, service decomposition, and complexity reduction judgment
• Domain depth in scientific or biomedical data platforms: genomics, bioinformatics, life sciences, or comparable data-intensive, workflow-driven scientific computing
• Delivery experience inside a regulatory boundary such as FedRAMP, HIPAA, ISO 13485, or GxP
• Reliability and modern delivery engineering: SLOs, error budgets, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD with policy-as-code and progressive rollout
• Production AI/LLM capability shipped under a compliance regime, or AI-assisted engineering landed, governed, and measured—beyond pilots
• Track record of setting technical vision for a platform and carrying an organization there
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred:

• Experience with CWL/WDL/Nextflow, GA4GH standards (DRS/WES), FHIR, or OMOP
• Federated or cross-institutional data access at scale—bringing analysis to data held by external parties
• Federal program delivery and artifact literacy: authorization packages, significant-change requests, and corrective-action plans
• Architecture depth in inference topology: hosting trade-offs, retrieval with per-tenant authorization, evaluation harnesses, and guardrails
• Shipping reusable product capability from grant- or program-funded work
