UVC Partners: Data & AI – Master Thesis / Internship (f/m/x)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a prominent European early-stage venture capital firm seeking a Master's thesis student or intern to join their specialized Data & AI team. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of applied research and investment intelligence, contributing directly to real-world fund decisions.

Our client operates at the forefront of B2B venture investing, focusing on enterprise software, mobility, and industrial technologies across Europe. You will join a team of investors, AI researchers, and engineers building sophisticated analytical infrastructure that powers investment decisions.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a research question from literature review through to working prototype implementation
• Work hands-on with proprietary venture capital data, applying advanced ML and AI techniques
• Develop and present findings directly to investment decision-makers
• Contribute to one or more research directions: Graph Neural Networks for relationship analysis, Program-aided Language Models for financial data extraction, or Bayesian frameworks for dynamic knowledge updating
• Write production-quality Python code that integrates into the team's data infrastructure
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully and critically
• Present technical work clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field at a top-tier university
• Deep expertise or strong ambition in at least one area: graph ML and graph databases (PyTorch Geometric), LLM tooling and evaluation, or probabilistic modeling (PyMC, NumPyro)
• Strong Python programming skills with clean, modular code practices
• Solid fundamentals in machine learning and statistics
• Fluency with AI-assisted coding tools, with demonstrated judgment about their strengths, limitations, and appropriate use cases
• Track record of independent project work where you set direction and executed autonomously
• Fluent English for technical communication, writing, and presentations (German helpful but not required)
• Agency and self-direction: ability to take rough problem statements and develop approaches independently
• Understanding that AI assistance is a craft requiring careful review and quality control
