Unit Secretary II – Emergency Department

Glens Falls Hospital is hiring a Unit Secretary II for our Emergency Department in Glens Falls, Warren County, New York. This is a full-time role supporting the fast-paced clinical environment and front-line staff of one of the region's leading healthcare facilities.

About the Role

As a Unit Secretary II in our Emergency Department, you'll be the organizational backbone of the unit—coordinating communications, managing patient flow, and keeping the clinical team focused on what matters most: patient care. This is a hands-on, high-energy position where your efficiency directly impacts how quickly our providers can respond to patients in need.

What You'll Do

• Answer and direct phones and intercoms; greet and register patients arriving at the Emergency Department
• Manage patient charts, medical records, and electronic documentation with precision
• Coordinate scheduling, appointments, and transfers between departments and partner facilities
• Maintain an organized front desk and unit workspace during high-volume periods
• Assist with admissions, discharge paperwork, and data entry into hospital systems
• Support clinical staff by preparing rooms, pulling charts, and flagging time-sensitive information
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and follow HIPAA compliance protocols
• Respond professionally and calmly during high-acuity situations and peak patient census

What We're Looking For

• Prior experience as a Unit Secretary, Health Unit Coordinator, or similar healthcare administrative position
• Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and standard office software
• Strong phone communication and customer service skills with patients, families, and staff
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized in a fast-paced emergency setting
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry
• Collaborative approach and eagerness to support nursing, physicians, and hospital operations
• Professional demeanor, reliability, and the ability to stay composed under pressure
