Tax Operations Specialist

We are representing a confidential payroll technology client seeking a Tax Operations Specialist in India. Our client provides comprehensive workforce management solutions, and this role sits at the critical intersection of customer service and tax compliance. You'll be the frontline problem-solver helping resolve urgent payroll tax notices while identifying system improvements that prevent future issues.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape a growing department while working cross-functionally with engineering teams and directly with federal and state tax agencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-class service to clients experiencing payroll tax issues
• Resolve tax notices on behalf of clients by researching internal systems and coordinating with tax agencies
• Work directly with federal and state agencies to reach optimal outcomes
• Identify and report system or process gaps that contribute to notice generation
• Collaborate cross-functionally with payroll engineering teams to implement preventative solutions
• Manually create original and amended tax returns as needed
• Update internal systems to reflect case resolutions and compliance status
• Ensure payroll compliance standards are maintained
• Document processes and contribute to team-building initiatives

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 1 year of experience working cross-functionally with tax agencies to resolve notices
• Hands-on experience manually creating original and amended tax returns
• Proven experience with tax reconciliation processes
• Strong understanding of payroll payments and filings
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
• Highly organized with demonstrated ability to improve processes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Flexibility to adapt to changing job duties and responsibilities
• Strong time management and task prioritization abilities
