Staff Software Engineer – Full-Stack

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential on-demand logistics client seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack in London (hybrid, 3 days on-site). In this senior role, you'll serve as a technical authority across multiple engineering teams, solving complex challenges in a high-scale marketplace environment.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Drive technical excellence: Provide expert-level technical reviews and architectural guidance across non-adjacent teams, ensuring alignment on critical initiatives.
• Architect scalable solutions: Design and implement solutions for ambiguous business problems in systems handling over 20,000 requests per minute.
• Lead strategic direction: Shape long-term technical roadmaps, manage project timelines and risks, and ensure sustainable delivery practices.
• Mentor and develop engineers: Support the growth of engineers at all levels and collaborate with emerging leaders to strengthen engineering culture.
• Recruit top talent: Conduct technical interviews and contribute to hiring strategy to maintain a high bar for engineering excellence.

What We're Looking For

Our talent team is seeking a candidate with significant full-stack experience and the ability to operate at staff-level scope:

• Extensive web application development: Deep experience building modern web applications using languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, or Scala, with willingness to work across multiple technologies.
• High-scale architecture expertise: Proven track record designing and operating web systems at scale, handling massive request volumes in production environments.
• Database ownership: Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL technologies (Redis, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Strategic leadership: Demonstrated ability to align cross-functional teams and resolve ambiguous technical challenges with broad organizational impact.
• Systems thinking: Understanding of complex, multi-sided marketplace dynamics and real-time operational systems.
